Bio

My name is Hugo Duarte, I am a hobbyist photographer based in London and I have a particular interest in landscape, waterscape and nature based photography.

About me, I was born in the outskirts of Lisbon, Portugal in 1989 and at the age of five I moved with my parents to London, England in 1994. London is where I grew up and where I reside to this day. The majority of my family remain in Lisbon as well as various other regions of central and southern Portugal.

Growing up I would visit family in Portugal, often spending my entire school summer holidays there. As a young adult, I maintained those ties with my family but I also wanted to explore different regions of my homeland as well as travel to other parts of the world.

Travelling has always been a big part of my life even as a young child and this has certainly influenced my hobbies and interests growing up, particularly when it comes to photography. For me, travelling and photography go hand-in-hand. As a child, having friends and family in both the UK and in Portugal, photography was a way for me to share my experiences and environment with people from both places, especially in an age of dial-up internet and pre-social media.

My family in Portugal would be shown photographs of the white winter landscapes and the many famous London landmarks. Whilst my friends in London would be shown photographs of the golden sandy beaches and rural landscapes from my summer holidays in Portugal. Thus, my passion for photography grew from there.

Aside from photography and travel, I also enjoy writing, particularly journal and narrative-style writing. This has led me to begin writing travel-guides or travel blogs for locations that I have explored extensively and that I am very familiar with, thereby providing readers with comprehensive tips of not only where to go, but how to get there, what to do there, how much it will cost and everything else in between.

I wanted a creative way of combining these interests and in 2017, I decided to create this website in order to have a platform where I could publish all of my content in one place.

Much of my photography content is shared across my social media platforms such as Instagram and X (see links below). The travel guides however are currently exclusively published on the website.
